May 11th at 5:30 PM CST (duration 1.5 hours)

Filmmaker Kyle Taubken will discuss how he approaches visual design in narrative filmmaking, particularly when working on no and low budget productions. Discussion will include story-motivated shot design, pre-production techniques, and how to face challenges on set while still maintaining your overall vision. Question and answer time will be included at the end.

Kyle Taubken is a filmmaker from Memphis, TN who has made a number of award-winning short films that have played at festivals including Indie Memphis, Portland Film Festival, Bushwick Film Festival, and Nashville Film Festival, among others. His recent short film, Soul Man, was the runner-up in the Fall 2019 Hammer to Nail Short Film Contest and won Best Hometowner Narrative Short at the 2019 Indie Memphis Film Festival. Kyle is currently developing his first feature.

This class is designed to be taken in conjunction with Visual Approaches to Documentary on 5/15, but that’s not a requirement – just a recommendation!

Registration closes at 5 PM on May 11th. Participants will be emailed a Zoom link ahead of time.

Sidewalk’s educational programs are presented by Wind Creek Hospitality.
