This is a free event. Director Amman Abbasi is scheduled to attend – the August 18th screening will be followed by a Q & A. Chronicling the lived experiences of BIPOC communities in the American South and US Territories on the unprecedented experience of 2020, HINDSIGHT is a new non-fiction short film series that explores the cultural shifts, community ingenuity, and pivotal conversations defining this moment in America. Presented by Firelight Media, CAAM & Reel South.

Short Films:

Udaan (Soar) by Amman Abassi – 15 Mins
UDAAN (SOAR) follows a young Pakistani woman as she immigrates from Karachi, Pakistan, to a small town in Arkansas to begin her first year of college.

Missing Magic by Anissa Latham – 9 Mins
MISSING MAGIC centers on a young poet and activist in Birmingham, Alabama, as he tries to write his way through the complex history of the city.,

This Body by Zac – 14 Mins
Manuel Sydney Hall participates in an experimental coronavirus vaccine trial in hopes of protecting her beloved New Orleans community, she and her loved ones confront the history of medical abuse and experimentation on Black bodies.,

La Comida pa’los Pobres by Arleen Cruz-Alicea – 14 Mins
Giovanni, a young Puerto Rican activist, confronts the island’s persistent crisis of food insecurity.

We Stay in the House by Kiyoko McCrae – 15 Mins
This documentary follows a group of New Orleans mothers as they struggle to care for their families and themselves throughout the pandemic. Utilizing video diaries, it provides an intimate portrait of mothering during a time of crisis.

Now Let Us Sing by Dilsey Davis – 15 Mins
An interfaith, interracial choir in Durham, North Carolina, is forced to take a new direction during the pandemic.

I also agree to release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless Sidewalk, its owners, employees, agents, contractors, insurers and affiliates, of all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating to attendance at Sidewalk events or programming.

We will be reopening with the following health and safety protocols in place to create the safest environment possible for you and our staff:

  • Online advance ticket purchases preferred.
  • Seating capacity limited to 50% per theater which provides ample space for social distancing (theater capacity is 100)
  • Masks are highly encouraged for all non-vaccinated guests and because we can’t ensure that those not wearing masks have been vaccinated, we suggest masks for everyone
  • Sidewalk staff members are either fully vaccinated or masked at all times
  • Sanitization of all high touch surfaces and theater seats in between all screenings

Alterations to the physical space include:

  • New touchless restroom fixtures
  • Hand sanitizing stations in key locations
  • Removal of some bar stools at main bar and limited seating in common areas
  • MERV-13 Filters in all HVAC units
