Film Criticism 101 with Madeleine Seidel

Designed for aspiring critics and casual writers alike, Sidewalk’s Film Criticism 101 will walk through the basics of writing about film. In this course, you will learn to analyze film through writing, talk about what makes film criticism different from other journalism, and craft your own reviews. Additionally, this two-session course will include a Q&A with writer Farran Smith Nehme (Film Comment, Criterion Collection) about her career as a critic.

First session: March 25th at 7 PM
Second session: April 8th at 7 PM
You must register for the first session to participate in the second session.

Instructor Bio: Madeleine Seidel is a curator and writer based in Brooklyn. She has previously worked at the Whitney Museum of American Art and Atlanta Contemporary. Her writing on film, performance, and the art of the American South has been published in SSENSE, Frieze, The Brooklyn Rail, Little White Lies, and others.
