SHOUT About Youth (SAY) is a local arts program held in Downtown Birmingham’s Theatre District by the Sidewalk/SHOUT Film Festival August 21st through 25th. Attendees are given the opportunity to view several days of films that focus on topics of interest to our community, interact with filmmakers at luncheons, panels and workshops, AND experience the metropolitan adventure that is Alabama’s first and only LGBTQ film festival. Young adults, ages 13 to 25, in Central Alabama are eligible to attend. SAY is free to all participants!

The 14th Annual Birmingham SHOUT LGBTQ Film Festival shares festival dates and the festival footprint with Sidewalk and is set to take place August 21st through 25th, 2019. SHOUT About Youth (SAY) will grant a weekend pass to the Festival to deserving LGBTQ young adults in Central Alabama. SAY pass will include:
  • Admission to the SHOUT Spotlight Night Film (18+)
  • A Variance of LGBTQ short and full-length, documentary and narrative film screenings
  • Two days of fun and exploration throughout Birmingham’s Theatre District
  • Access to various educational panels and workshops
  • Meet & greet luncheons with filmmakers from around the world
Ideal participants for SAY have a history of expressed interest in films and filmmaking. Eligible applicants include:
  • Individuals who are 13-25 years old
  • Residents of Central Alabama
  • Those who are LGBTQ identified and/or allies
  • Young adults who suffer financial barriers to the arts and arts programs
  • Those who are economically, racially, socially, or geographically disenfranchised
We greatly value the collaborators of our program, without which we wouldn’t be able to share our experience with Central Alabama’s LGBTQ young adults! Upon acceptance, participants and collaborators are notified by email. Applications are on hold due to the pandemic but we will update this page once that changes.
