2021 Sidewalk Cinema Membership Drive

HAVEN’T BECOME A SIDEWALK MEMBER YET? IT’D BE A LOT COOLER IF YOU DID DURING OUR MEMBERSHIP DRIVE, APRIL 26TH – MAY 9TH!

Sidewalk Memberships are a great way to help support us year-round. Membership purchases help fund a number of efforts toward Sidewalk’s mission of bringing independent film to Birmingham, including new educational programs, Cinema programming, Sidewalk Home Video, and of course the annual Sidewalk Film Festival.

Our memberships start at just $75/year. The membership levels are listed here and include tons of benefits including discounts on tickets, passes, and merchandise; plus access to exclusive Members-Only events!

This year, all new members who join during the Membership Drive will receive a Dazed and Confused-themed koozie and t-shirt. T-shirts are unisex and come in S – 4XL, please put your size in the comment box when checking out.

Everyone who chooses to become a member at the Art Department level ($250) or above during the Membership Drive will also receive this rad cooler.

The t-shirt and cooler are for members only and will not be available for purchase on our merch site.

To become a member today, visit the membership page of our website.

No Close Encounters of Any Kind Membership Drive

Seriously, not of any kind.

Though we can’t sit shoulder to shoulder in the cinema and watch a film right now, we can still support one another and indie filmmakers from afar.

The Sidewalk team has been working hard to fulfill our mission in a socially distant and socially responsible way, launching many virtual education/outreach programs and the new Sidewalk Home Video series in the few short weeks since our temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of you have asked how to support us during this time and one of the best ways to do that is through the purchase of a membership at any level.

Our goal is to sell $30,000 of memberships over the next 30 days to sustain our team and continue our work during this temporary closure.

A few membership notes:

  • Upgrade! Member tickets are now $8 all the time, instead of the previously provided 10% discount
  • Membership benefits apply immediately but will be extended for one year from the reopen date of the Cinema
  • Everyone who becomes a member during the 2020 Membership Drive will be invited to a special members only Close Encounters of the Third Kind event at the Cinema upon reopening
  • Everyone who becomes a member during the 2020 Membership Drive will receive this Limited Edition T-shirt (be sure to put your size in the comments section of the membership form)

Here’s a breakdown of all our membership categories:

Check out the Filmmaker/Industry Membership if you’re a local filmmaker who wants discounts on class registrations and film submissions.

General memberships (Production Assistant, Second Unit, Art Department, and Casting Department) are great if you’re not necessarily a filmmaker but enjoy coming to the festival and the cinema.

Sidewalk Circle memberships are ideal for those who really want to go the extra mile to support us – and reap all the extra benefits all year long!

You can also purchase a membership at any level as a gift for someone else.

We really appreciate your support during our temporary closure and can’t wait to see you all once it’s safe for us to reopen.

Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema Capital Campaign Reaches Major Milestone

Our $4.9 million Make Movie Magic campaign to fund the Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema recently crossed the $3 million mark, taking us to the 60% mark. We celebrated this success with our campaign donors on April 19th at The Pizitz Food Hall and offered tours of the lower level, future home of the Sidewalk Cinema. For more information about the Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema visit our project page here.

Salsa Showdown presented by Alagasco Returns May 27th

Sidewalk is happy to announce the 7th Annual Salsa Showdown presented by Alagasco will be Saturday, May 27th at Cahaba Brewing Company! Restaurants and vendors from across Alabama will convene to compete for best salsa, queso, guacamole, and specialty dip – both audience choice and jury choice. Plus we’ll have live music, piñata smashes, kids’ activities, and our famous hot pepper eating contest.

You can find more information and buy tickets to Salsa Showdown on the event page here.

Campaign Launches – Keep #SidewalkStrong

Our Keep Sidewalk Strong crowdfunding campaign has launched on Seed&Spark! We’re raising money to help rent the Lyric Theatre at this year’s festival and to outfit the Alabama Theatre with Digital Cinema Projection.

We’re asking our biggest champions to contribute in this effort to make Sidewalk 2017 our best festival yet. Plus, donors to the campaign can take home limited edition Sidewalk merchandise designed by Yellowhammer Creative!
