8th ANNUAL SIDEWALK MOVING PICTURE FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2006

“I really think you guys just might have discovered
the perfect ingredients for a film festival..."

-- Don Bernier, IN A NUTSHELL

SIDEWALK MUSIC CAFÉ

Rest your weary eyes and let your ears take over as you enjoy the sounds of the Sidewalk Music Café at the Speakeasy 1920 (located at 1920 3rd Ave. North).  Combining the remarkable talent of local musicians with some incredible national acts who boast a litany of film composition credits, the Sidewalk Music Café is the perfect place to kick back, relax, grab a beverage and enjoy some tunes. Sponsored by Tubular Products Company, with sound equipment provided by Bailey Brothers Music Co. Speakeasy 1920 is a 21+ venue.

BO BUTLER AND THE NICEBOYS
Saturday, Sept. 23 @ 12:45 pm
This Alabama based band has received rave reviews and quickly gained a reputation among area Country fans for playing it "right and true." Their set list includes classics from some of Country music's greatest musicians such as Ernest Tubb, Johnny Paycheck, Faron Young, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline and more.

THE SATURDAYS
Saturday, Sept. 23 @ 3 pm
Down home folk with a modern alternative touch, The Saturdays are a new alt-country experience that forces recognition. "Go Slow" is not just the title of the new record from the Saturdays, it's also the bands philosophy. After all, what would you call a work that so neatly spreads itself across such a wide variety emotions so slowly?

THE EXHIBIT(S)
Saturday, Sept. 23 @ 5:30 pm
With influences ranging from Metallica to Radiohead to Johnny Cash to the Beatles, even members of the band find it difficult to explain the Exhibit(s) sound. The group's shared fondness of Spinal Tap and Jägermeister probably is description enough.  They have individually and collaboratively scored films like HIDE AND CREEP, RECIPROCITY, SEVEN YEAR SWITCH, SEWING A RIVER, and the Sidewalk 2006 short GOLDEN AGE.

DAVID WINGO
Saturday, Sept. 23 @ 8 pm
David Wingo got his start in film-scoring on director David Gordon Green's acclaimed 2000 debut GEORGE WASHINGTON. Since then he has been the composer or co-composer on Green's other films (ALL THE REAL GIRLS, UNDERTOW and the recently completed SNOW ANGELS), Jordan Melamed's  2002 feature MANIC, Craig Robel's feature THE GREAT WORLD OF SOUND, and Todd Rohal's Sidewalk 2006 feature THE GUATEMALAN HANDSHAKE. David is also is the singer/guitarist for the band Ola Podrida,  who’s debut album is being released by the L.A-based record label Plug Research in the spring of 2007. Don’t miss David’s SideTalk panel, “Low-Budget Film Scoring and the Music of THE GUATEMALAN HANDSHAKE,” 1:30 pm, Sat. 9/23 at the Harbert Center.

WILD SWEET ORANGE
Sunday, Sept. 24 @ 1 pm
Wild Sweet Orange’s gritty rock and contemplative ballads both tell a story and evoke mystery. The soaring melodies transport you from a dark club, back to the house you grew up in. The modern and the classic come together in this melting pot, as Wild Sweet Orange joins in with the ever growing question, Are things ever as they seem?

THE STALLS
Sunday, Sept. 24 @ 2:30 pm
The Stalls, from Vancouver, British Columbia, have been likened to Radiohead and the Pixies. A recent reviewer said of the full band, they “boast tender singing, piano playing fit for the theme of an 80s sitcom, and brushing, bashing drums that sound like a baby brontosaurus strolling along a china doll beach.” Lead singer Danny Singh and keyboardist CJ Wallis strip it down and perform an acoustic set of original songs from their debut album. CJ Wallis’ short film, CIRCUMFERENCE, is screening in the shorts competition.

MARK GEARY
Sunday, Sept. 24 @ 4:15 pm
Recognized today as one of New York’s favorite performers, Mark Geary started out playing with Jeff Buckley at the legendary Café Sine, and in early days made a name for himself opening for the likes of Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, and Coldplay. Since then, he has toured the globe and participated in music festivals all over the world, highlighted by three years in a row at SXSW and CMJ. Mark’s 2005 release, Ghosts, was voted Album of the Year by the Irish Voice. He has scored two films that were selected for Dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival (STEEL CITY and Sidewalk 2005’s LOGGERHEADS). Mark's music has been featured in countless TV shows and films and can be found on many compilations, including Starbucks Hear Music.
